about

40 years ago I heard something like this melody on a PBS documentary about the Mehinaku tribe of Brazil. I believe the Pequi is their sacred fruit, and the tune I heard may have been in praise of that fruit. So many years later, I'm not really sure. Anyway, I was fascinated at that time with the melody and made a primitive one-track recording of sax and bass. I recently rediscovered that tape and decided to use some modern DAW tools to update it a bit. This is surely cultural appropriation, but it is done with much love and respect for the Mehinaku people and their valiant efforts to defend their land and lifestyle.
